Coaches, Team managers and parents:  

It has been decided that after our hugely successful trip to Barcelona, Spain in 2011, we are going to do it again!

The goal is to have two girls’ teams and two boys’ teams go this time. The teams will be made up of mixed ages:  Boys U11-14 and Boys U15-18 and Girls U13-15 and Girls U16-18.

For anyone who came two years ago, the hotel will be different and we are planning a few new things to do. We are also shooting for two luxury buses so we are flexible to take two separate directions on each occasion to mix it up. It will allow for more free time as well.

We have planned a 9-day trip so that after the first full travel day, we still will have 8 days left to enjoy. We need to keep in mind that this will be a "SOCCER TRIP" so we have 4 friendly matches planned against local teams from the Catalonian Area. There will be 2 professional training sessions performed by local coaches of the area, as well as one session by our own coaches. There will also be a minimum of one professional match and possibly two. The plan is to go see Barcelona play and maybe also RCD Espanyol.  We will leave Tampa on a Friday and arrive in Spain on Saturday which will allow us to see a game on Saturday night or Sunday. We will also have another chance the following weekend before we leave to go home.

The trip will cost approximately $2300 per person. The price will be confirmed once we have official numbers in August.  This includes everything: flight, accommodations, very good meals (several local dishes served in a buffet style), drinks at meals, all soccer facilities and games and referee fees, all transportation, all tours, one ticket to a professional match (additional $ if we are able to do a second match) and  trust me that this experience truly is PRICELESS. Ask anyone who went on the last trip; I will assure you they will tell you how great an experience it was.

It will take place during one of the weeks in March 2014 and dates will be confirmed in the coming months (by July for sure) as we are waiting for official State Cup dates as well as some other things.

There will be a "GENERAL MEETING" for this trip for anyone who is interested thisTuesday evening (May 21st) at 7pm at Benito Middle School. The little room by the soccer fields and basketball courts is where it will be held. I will show a small power point presentation and answer any questions in that hour.

TAMPA, Fla. - Congratulations to the Chargers SC Tampa U16 Elite Boys who cpatured the title this past weekend at the Big Sun Showcase in Ocala. Playing up a year in the U17 Bronze Division, the team was 4-0 and outscored its opposition 17-4.

Coached by Stu Wasserman and Andres Arango, the Chargers started the weekend with a 3-2 victory against Orlando City to set the tone for the weekend. They followed up with a 7-0 win against Stetson FA and a 5-1 victory against TBU.

They faced Orlando city once again in the finals, coming out on top 2-1. Great Work!

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Chargers SC has selected a U12 boys all-star team comprised of players from the Clearwater, Lakewood Ranch and Tampa Chargers communities to participate in the prestigious and highly competitive Danone Nations Cup Memorial Day weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports Soccer Complex, May 24-27.

The Danone Nations Cup will be held for the fourth consecutive year at ESPN Wide World of Sports as part of the Disney’s Memorial Day Soccer Shootout. As in the past the winner of this event will receive an all expense trip for 12 athletes and 2 coaches to compete against teams from 40 other countries. This year’s Danone Nations Cup World Championships will take place in London, England at a date and time to be determined.

The Chargers SC team at the Danone Nations Cup will be coached by Rey Villalba and Novica Maric.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Coach Marco Pollastri's Clearwater U10 Boys captured the Nike Champions Cup title this past weekend, playing up in the U11 division. A 4-0 win against Brandon FC gave the team the trophy after posting two wins and a tie in group play.

Recently the team also reached the final of the BSI Bazooka Tournament while playing up in a U11 bracket.

Pollastri’s team started with a 2-0 win against FC America’s U11s in group play, then dropped a 3-2 decision against Orlando City. They earned a spot in the finals with a 3-2 win against the Hunters Creek Vipers.

In the championship match at Austin-Tindall Regional Park in Kissimmee, the Chargers battled Orlando City to a 2-2 draw through regulation and two overtimes, only to fall short in penalty kicks.

Congratulations for a job well done!

August 31 - September 2, 2013

CLEARWATER, Fla. - A pair of Chargers SC teams are still alive heading into the 2013 Florida State Cup Final Four, which is set for May 18-19 at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale.

Leading the way into the Final Four is the Clearwater U18 Girls, coached by Siggi Nagele, who advanced with a 3-0 win vs. the Florida Fire Juniors and a 2-1 victory against TBU Premier. They will face Pinecreat Premier in the state semifinals.

Also advancing to the Final Four are the U13 Lakewood Ranch boys coached by Tim Mulqueen. They started the weekend with a 3-0 win against Wellington, which set up a round of eight meeting against the Chargers SC Clearwater U13 Boys, coached by Ken Jewell.

Lakewood Ranch came out on top and will face coral Gables in the state semifinal.

Also advancing past Saturday’s round of 16 was the U14 Tampa Girls, who defeated Clay County 1-0 before falling on Sunday vs. TBU.

Congratulations to the teams that advanced, and all the Chargers SC teams that performed well in State Cup.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Chargers SC coach Kyle Clinton has signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Clinton, a Countryside High grad, coaches the Clearwater U14 Boys Premier team along with Griffin Gilstrap, and joins Chargers SC Tampa Coach Andres Arango on the Rowdies roster.

Rowdies Sign Midfielder Kyle Clinton and Defender Jordan Gafa

The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Wednesday the signing of midfielder Kyle Clinton and defender Jordan Gafa, both to a two-year contract with the second year being a club option.

Clinton (6-4, 180) joined the Rowdies as a trialist at the start of the 2013 season and has seen action in the Disney Pro Soccer Classic, as well as other preseason matches. The Francis Marion University standout started his first match last Saturday against Saint Leo. Clinton, originally from Safety Harbor, is a product of Global Premier Soccer’s Portland Phoenix of the Premier Development League, a Rowdies player development affiliate club.

Gafa (5-10, 165) was previously captain of the 2012 University of North Carolina soccer team, where he was known for his technical ability at the right-back position. The 22 year-old came to the Rowdies as a trialist prior to the first leg of the I-4 Derby Presented by United World Soccer on March 9. Since his arrival, Gafa has seen playing time in most of the 2013 Preseason Tour matches.

Hosted by the Chargers Soccer Club at the Premier Sports Campus, and led by The Complete Soccer Goalkeepers Academy Director, Tim Mulqueen. Coach Mulqueen, has this to say to the aspiring US goalkeepers:  

Together with my good friend, reigning national team goalkeeper Tim Howard; the Chargers Soccer Club, and the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch, I have launched The Complete Soccer Goalkeeper Academy.  Our 2nd annual camp will run this summer from June 30, - July 5, 2013 on the Bermuda grass fields of the Lakewood Ranch campus, near Sarasota, Florida.

This is a camp for serious goalkeepers. I have designed a curriculum based upon my many years of experience as the goalkeeping coach for theNew York Metrostars, the Kansas City Wizards, the US Olympic team, the US U20 team and the US U17 Academy in Bradenton, Florida. My positions have permitted me exceptional experiences, including the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art goalkeeping training methods at the highest level both in the US and abroad. I have adapted my methods and used these experiences to aid goalkeepers of all ages and all ability levels, but with an emphasis upon elite players. I have had the honor of coaching almost every goalkeeper who has come through the men’s national team program, three MLS goalkeepers of the year and literally dozens of young keepers who have gone on to earn college sponsorships.

This camp is designed to improve goalkeepers in every facet of the game. We will offer three sessions daily. I will lead every session, and Tim Howard will attend every day of the camp to assist instruction alongside a fantastic staff. The focus will be on fundamentals such as basic shot stopping and dealing with crosses. We will also work on higher level skills such as reading the game and learning to organize a defense properly. Mental training and a goalkeeper specific strength and conditioning program will also be provided. We will use the same technology used by professional clubs to record your keeper in action and review his/her play. Video sessions will also cover analysis of Tim and other top keepers, and Tim will provide commentary regarding his and other’s play.

The facilities are top class and have recently hosted preseason for a number of professional teams as well as the US Academy Showcase.

We are leaving nothing to chance in our effort to make this the best goalkeeping camp in America. We feel very confident that your keeper will leave The Complete Soccer Goalkeeping Academy better than when he or she arrived, armed with techniques and instructions that can carry his or her development forward to the next level. Moreover, it is our hope that your goalkeeper will always remember a week in the company of one of the world’s best goalkeepers, under the care of some of the best coaches around, while working side-by-side with other elite keepers - - all in an enjoyable and beautiful setting!
