Tampa Chargers 15g reach Labor Day Tournament Finals with 10 players!!!

Head Coach Brian Edwards and his assistant coach Jim DeLisle have always known they have a very talented group of players who enjoy playing together. What they did not know was how focused and determined they could be in times of adversity.

Adversity certainly reared its ugly head just prior to and in the midst of the tournament. Weeks prior to the tournament the team lost its keeper. Days prior to the tournament the team lost a critical defender.

Undaunted, the team won the first two games of the tournament scoring 11 goals and allowing one. Then another player went down with a severe ankle sprain leaving the team down to 10 players and no subs.

The team dug deep and tied their third game on the second day on Sunday in blazing heat with 10 players and no subs to advance to the semi finals. The semi finals on Monday morning was against a difficult opponent. Nonetheless, these girls played a tight 4-3-2 formation and sliced the opponents defenders with some brilliant attacks in a 3 -2 win to reach the finals. A one to one final game went deep into the second half before the Tampa Chargers went down....but not without a gallant and tireless effort earning the praise and adulation of even our opponents parents who appreciated their fight with only 10 players and no subs.

Overall, the girls played 5 games in 3 days 3 of which were played with only 10 players and no subs!

A true testament to what a group of cohesive, focused, and determined group of girls can accomplish when adversity strikes.
