TAMPA, Fla. - The Chargers SC Tampa U16 Boys TARSA team, coached by Shreesh Tandel, was a finalist this past weekend at the 2014 Brandon Cup hosted by West Florida Flames. The team won all three of its group games to top the standings and was unlucky to lose the final in a penalty-shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. http://fcflames.com/brandon-cup-schedule1/

In the first game on Saturday the Chargers shut out the West Florida Flames Lightning in a close game to win 2-0. In the second game they also shut out the West FL Flames Arsenal, 3-0. Sunday's third game was close and the team played well to defeat TBU-Walters 2-1 and top their group.

In the finals they faced TBU-Walters once again and scored early in the second half to lead 1-0. However, they surrendered the tying goal a few minutes later and missed a few chances to close the game out. With the score tied at the end of regulation time, the match went into PKs with TBU emerging as the winner.

The Chargers defense, which has been outstanding all season, proved itself yet again in the tournament by only allowing two goals in four games. With the starting goalkeeper injured and unable to play, six different players stepped up to put on the gloves for the four matches, producing a total team effort.
