Chargers Soccer Club Announces Roberto Lopez as the Director of Coaching Education

The Chargers Soccer Club are excited to announce Roberto Lopez as the Director of Coaching
Education. Roberto will transition to his new role after previously serving as the Director of the
MLS Next program for the previous 7 and a half years. Roberto has been involved with the
academy for 11 years with the Chargers Soccer Club. Currently, Roberto serves as a US Soccer
National Instructor and is one of 12 instructors in the country teaching the USSF ‘A’ License
Course.
As both a coach and director, Roberto brings over 35 years of experience. From 2003 to 2011,
Roberto was a USSF National Staff coach. From 1999 to this day, Roberto is a USSF Instructor
for the National ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ Licenses. He instructs and mentors coaches in these courses in
both English and Spanish.
Roberto holds his USSF ‘A’ License, USSF Academy Director License, USSF Youth License, NSCAA
Premier Diploma with distinction, NSCAA GK License Level 1, and AFC Ajax GK certificate.
In 2002, Roberto was awarded the USYS Region III Youth Coach of the Year award, and followed
that in 2003 by representing the USA as 5 th place finishers in the FIFA Youth World Cup.
Roberto has devoted his life to player and coaching development and the Chargers are thrilled
to announce Roberto as the new Director of Coaching Education.
