Dear Chargers Families, Friends, and the entire Soccer Community –
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rob O’ Nan, one of our own, a friend, a colleague, a family man and a very caring individual. Rob was a Coach and Board Member of the Clearwater Chargers, and eventually President for many of those years. During the time as a Coach, he helped lead several teams to State and Regional titles and was member of my staff that brought home the U19 Boys James P. McGuire Cup 1997 National Championship.
More than successes on the field Rob loved being a mentor to any player in the club whether he coached them or not. He was there to listen, guide, and help any player, coach or family that came to him in their time of need. Rob had a huge heart and would go above and beyond to help anyone – and specially to help guide the Club to be the very best it could be.
Just about any night you’d be able to find Rob at the fields during trainings or games as that is where Rob was truly at home. He took great pride in the Clearwater Chargers and gave many years of service to help grow from a single location to multiple ones and to make it a regional Chargers Soccer Club. He started with the merger with Countryside Soccer club, then the development of the new club Lakewood Ranch Chargers and finally the merger with the Fusion Futbol Club (formerly Black Watch SC and the New Tampa SA) to bring them on as the Tampa Chargers.
Even after his time at the club had come to an end, he was always a proud supporter of the club and grateful for the lifelong friendships he built. Rob will forever be a Clearwater Charger and his memory will live on in all the Chargers’ players, coaches, and families he touched.
Our sincere deepest condolences and thoughts and prayers go out to Rob’s family.
ROB YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED, RIP DEAR FRIEND!
