Peter Mannino Chargers Soccer Club Director of Coaching Announces Retirement

The Chargers Soccer Club, with everlasting gratitude, would like to announce that Peter Mannino, the longest serving Director of Coaching in Florida, has retired. Coach Peter Mannino began with the Chargers in 1991 and served in his role as Director of Coaching over a span of 34 years. During his tenure as Director of Coaching, Coach Peter developed, guided, and led thousands of players to successful careers both on and off the field. Some of these players that went onto professional soccer careers include Jeff Attinella, Zac MacMath, Ben Sweat, Nathan Harriel, Wesley Charpie, Bobby Boswell, Bryane Heaberlin, Michael Mannino, Kyle Clinton, Brian Waltrip, among many others. The Chargers Soccer Club grew to one of the nation’s most respected clubs, providing players from many areas in and around the community the opportunity to represent the Chargers badge at the highest level.

A proud moment under his leadership came in 2006 when the club was recognized as one of the elites in the country, becoming founding members in the United States Development Academy, which continues to this day under the MLS Next platform, serving as the highest level of youth soccer competition across the country. Coach Peter was awarded the United States Development Academy Conference Coach of the Year award in 2007 and 2008. Additionally, Coach Peter played a significant role in forming the Super Y league alongside the best clubs in the southern region as well as a founding member of the Club Directors League, a special club to club competition including the best clubs in the west coast of Florida.

The Chargers Soccer Club proudly displays three stars, representing the 3 National Championships the club achieved. Coach Peter is very proud of these great achievements. Aside from his soccer accomplishments, Coach Peter is recognized by so many for his mentorship and guidance in life. Coach Peter never viewed himself different than anybody else. From lining the fields, coaching at the recreational level, cleaning up trash around the facilities, to leading the U19 boys to the 1995 and 1997 James P. McGuire Cup National Championship victories, Coach Peter is recognized as a pilar in the organization.

While Coach Peter retires from his role as Director of Coaching, we are thrilled to announce that he will continue serving in the club, as an advisor for the youth academy program, developing the next great Charger players!
